Google Maps and Street View have not launched yet in South Africa. However, you can try Street view in other countries, for instance: Canada.
Start by going to maps.google.ca. In areas where Street View is available, you can access it by zooming into the lowest level on Google Maps, or by dragging the orange "Pegman" icon on the left-hand side of the map onto a street. For more detailed instructions, see here.
Currently we provide street-level imagery for many cities, towns, parks and remote parts of the world from Australia to USA, France and Spain to Taiwan. You can find the latest list here.
We're working to expand our coverage to areas that are not presently covered.

Street View imagery is gathered by vehicles equipped with advanced imaging technology, driving on public roads. At this time, we're not accepting photo submissions for inclusion in Street View.
While the Street View feature enables people to easily find, discover, and plan activities relevant to a location, we take our users' privacy very seriously. Street View only contains imagery from public roads, which is no different than what you might see driving down the street. Imagery of this kind is available in a wide variety of formats for cities all around the world. We are committed to respecting local laws and norms in each country in which we launch Street View.
Blurring technology and operational controls like image removal are among the ways in which we ensure that an individual's privacy is respected. We make it easy for users to ask to have photographs of themselves, their children, their cars or their houses completely removed from the product, even where the images have already been blurred.

The images were taken in the past year by specialised vehicles driving on public roads.
We are currently driving in the following areas: Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town Please note that this schedule is subject to change due to weather conditions or technical and operational reasons. Smaller cities may be driven by Street View vehicles during transit and/or when neighboring the cities mentioned above. This list will be updated on a regular basis.
