Sydney Page Style: A Vintage Shoot

A few weeks ago I did a portfolio shoot with a few other Richmonders. We all have day jobs (lawyer, barber, etc.), but love the creativity that comes with photography, make-up/hair, modeling and styling. The shoot was put together in just under a week and as I pulled clothes from my own closet, it was clear that the shoot would be full of vintage influences with great textured pieces.

This gold number was one of my favorite looks, probably because I could easily see myself in this exact outfit! While on set, I was asked if these were all pieces I had collected just for shoots or items I bought for myself and the answer was no and yes. When I shop (thrift, consign, etc.) I am drawn to items with a clear vintage look to them, usually full of pleats, sequins, beading, or something that is just plain fun, regardless of size. I then have designs on altering a piece that is too good to leave behind to actually fit, which usually never happens. So then these pieces inevitably become a part of my “collection,” which works out nicely when there’s a shoot to style.

I can never get enough of simple looks full of drama. Cameron’s hair was perfect for this shoot: a little bit of crazy, lots of volume. But in a shot like this, dramatic hair and one good clothing item are all the accessories you need.

Do you know how excited I was to pull out this red vintage number? I had just gotten it altered (taken in at the waist, sleeves slimmed, shoulders still need to be done) and knew it was the perfect compliment to the vintage looks I had pulled. I paired it over a grey Kersh dress (yes, the likes of those sold at Eurotrash that I found 2nd hand) and another item that’s made its way into my collection: lace up J. Crew heels.

I had a great time styling this shoot. Can’t wait for more to come!
