Spotted Eagle-Owl Sickened By Trichomoniasis

An adult, female spotted eagle-owl (Bubo africanus) was transported to us by the SPCA Randfontein & Westonaria after she was found grounded and looking very ill in Randfontein.

Upon arrival, it was evident that she was suffering from a bad trichomoniasis infection. She was initially on a drip, and thereafter on EmerAid IC Carnivore. We were able to gently pass a tube down her throat past the plug of necrotic tissue.

We are so grateful that she was assisted and got to us when she did! Thank you to everyone involved in ensuring that she has another chance at life.
