Bryce Thompson discusses playing robber in the NFL

Tennessee will conduct its pro day on Thursday in the Anderson Training Center.

Former Tennessee cornerback Bryce Thompson will take part in pro day. Thompson met with media ahead of pro day to discuss his process of playing in the National Football League.

During his career with the Vols, Thompson would play the robber position on passing downs.

He was able to sit back and read the ball and attack, while the boundary-side brought pressure. As the boundary-side brought pressure, Thompson attacked the ball in space as a robber.

Thompson detailed his discussions with NFL teams and scouts about playing the position at the next level.

“The scheme we played last year definitely helped,” Thompson said. “It was basically a pro defense, so it definitely helped, especially when I am going over plays with coaches and scouts. I know almost the same terminology they are using, so it definitely helps.

“I have been looked at a couple of times at the safety position, which I am fine with playing safety, not where I want to play, but I am okay with it. Other than that, the defense that (Jeremy) Pruitt had last year defintely helped me out with this process.”

Thompson appeared in 32 games from 2018-20 for the Vols.

He totaled 102 tackles, two sacks, eight interceptions, 19 pass deflections, forced two fumbles and recovered one during his Tennessee career.
