Gathered to present the award for Male Actor in a Comedy Series, the trio adopted iconic tropes and jokes from the now-18-year-old comedy. First appearing solo, Streep goofily bumped into the standing mic on stage to quickly note she forgot her glasses (to read the prompter) and the envelope (to announce the presenters). Just as Andy Sachs and Emily Charlton would have, Hathaway and Blunt elegantly fetched what Streep was missing, joining her as the crowd erupted in applause. As the bit went on, Hathaway and Blunt delivered some of Streep's iciest and most unforgettable lines as Miranda Priestly. Among them? "By all means move at a glacial pace, you know how that thrills me" and "No, no — that wasn't a question." Streep also said, "It's an age-old question: Where does the character end and the actor begin?" to which Blunt dryly interrupted, "Well, as we've just seen, Meryl and Miranda Priestly are sort of like twins." It was an epic delivery, a treat for fans that have watched Sachs race through the hallways of Runway time and time and time again. Just like the characters in the film, the actresses looked stunning, Streep in a Prada look, Blunt in Louis Vuitton, and Hathaway in Versace blue—or rather, cerulean, another wink at Streep/Priestly's monologue about the power of the fashion industry. Hathaway played fashion novice and assistant Andy Sachs, while her counterpart Streep famously portrayed the magazine's editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly (a role that would earn her an Oscar nod), widely believed to be inspired by Vogue editor Anna Wintour. Blunt, fashion assistant Emily, previously said that Streep's foray into method acting while filming was "terrifying" “She’s amazing and was slightly terrifying on that film," Blunt recalled during an episode of Variety’s Actors on Actors series. "But it made her so miserable, playing Miranda," Hathaway and Blunt last reunited for Variety's "Actors on Actors" series in December, during which they reminisced about their time on set together. "We just had a joy bomb of a time on that movie," Blunt said. "I don’t know if any of us knew it was going to become what it did. It’s quoted to me every week. It will be the movie that changed my life." Blunt is nominated at tonight's ceremony for outstanding performance by a female actor in a supporting role, as well as outstanding performance by a cast for Oppenheimer. Her co-stars Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. have also received nods.
