KING CHEETAH: "Acinonyx jubstus." The King cheetah is a very rare breed of cheetah only found in Southern Africa. King cheetahs have a muted fur pattern caused by a recessive gene, which gives their distinctive appearance due to a lack of genetic diversity, resulting in three (3) stripes along their backs and large blotchy spots. First discovered in Zimbabwe in 1926 and thought to be a sperate species from the spotted cheetah. Biologist Scientists retracted their earlier declaration, stating "King Cheetahs" are not a separate species but rather a variation of the common spotted cheetah. 📷 Hoedspruit Endangered Species Center.
