Cape Nature and the City of Cape Town have come under fire from animal rights activists and the Cape of Good Hope Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) for "putting down" another baboon.
Bolo, a Cape Chacma baboon, made a "miraculous recovery" after 10 days of dedicated effort by the SPCA to save him at great cost.
In a scathing open letter published on Facebook, veterinarian Dr Georgina du Plessis lambasted the decision by Cape Nature to kill Bolo after she and a team of veterinarians had rehabilitated the baboon, which was ready to be released back into the Waterfall troop in Simon's Town.
