At Pooky we have the pleasure of inspecting fabulous lighting designs every day, but it’s still a rare delight when something stops us in our tracks and makes us go: ‘Wow - that is seriously special!’ Mathew Williamson’s designs for a series of lamps - which became the English Garden collection - had just that effect. Spectacular, supremely decorative, detailed and witty...well, they blew us away.Already a stellar name in the world of fashion, Matthew Williamson is now firmly established as one of the UK’s most exciting interior designers, employing a highly distinctive style that he calls ‘rustic decadence’. We began collaborating with Matthew after he used some of our lights in the Belmond la Residencia hotel in Mallorca (and indeed in his own home). Last year he designed a set of spectacular lampshades which proved as popular as we hoped - and both the shades and the English Garden lamp collection are perfect expressions of that rustic decadence concept. The collection comprises a table lamp, a wall light fitting (in single and double varieties) and a glorious six shade chandelier.
"I’ve always been drawn to vintage floral tole metal lights and wanted to design my own range inspired by the technique. For the range of four lights comprising English Garden, I was keen to retain the charm and nostalgic qualities so often linked to these pieces. Each has been designed to work in both period and modern schemes alike. "From the English Garden range, my favourite piece is the table lamp which I’d use on a bedside table. Alternatively, it would look equally charming bringing some character to a kitchen corner or island. "I’d pair the range with my graphic Ikat shades for a sharp contrast to the decorative floral base. The lights would also look beautiful with my Paisley floral shades for double the flower power, positioned near a window to blur the lines between indoors and out."

This is a lamp to fall in love with and was the the original inspiration for Matthew’s English garden collection. It’s a vintage sensation and it’s simply beautiful in a Goldilocks way: not too big, not too small; not too ornate, not too simple. Everything is just right and the detailing is exquisite. We’ve paired it here with one of Matthew’s 35cm straight empire shades in blue and white paisley - but it will look splendid with a wide variety of shades. English Garden wall light fittings
This has a really beautiful vintage vibe with heaps of leafy character just growing out of the wall. English Garden Chandelier
If you’re a fan of sitting in a garden amongst creepers and climbers then this is a much easier way to bring the verdant English flora indoors than dismantling the pergola! It’s finished in a gentle grey with six bulbs sprouting from golden roses, all subtly antiqued. The detailing is extremely carefully thought out and it looks spectacular with shades or simply with naked bulbs....
