A PLANE has crashed in Chile leaving six people dead after it plummeted into power lines.

Authorities have said six people have died after a light aircraft crashed into a house in southern Chile. The plane crashed after it got tangled in power lines after taking off from La Paloma airport, which is 600 miles south of Santiago. Dramatic images show a plane’s tail lying in the garden of the destroyed house.

According to the local authorities, the pilot was among the dead as well as two women and four men.

It has emerged that the aircraft was owned by the "Archipielago" company, which operates commercial flights in a region that is difficult to access.

A statement from Salmones Camanchaca read: “We are awaiting information from the authorities and airline about the cause of the accident which we understand is being investigated.

“As a company and as human beings we are very badly affected and are very saddened over what happened.”
