Manchester United look set to sign Bruno Fernandes this month as they attempt to return to Champions League football.

United currently trail Chelsea by five points in the Premier League table as they seek a top-four finish.

But the club need more than Fernandes if they want to start competing for Premier League honours once again.

In truth, they probably need four or five brilliant transfer windows if they want to close the gap on Manchester City and Liverpool.

Fernandes would certainly represent a decent January transfer window.

And they could be set for an equally impressive summer transfer window if Italian journalist Fabio Santini is to be believed.

Speaking on the TV show Il Processo he revealed United may have secured a deal to sign one of the best defenders in the world.

"Napoli will sell Kalidou Koulibaly to Manchester United for a figure of around 70-75m euros. It seems all done," he said.

"Naturally, such a deal will be closed only in June and certainly not in January in the winter transfer window."

Wow.

There's no doubt the Napoli man would be a fantastic signing for the Red Devils and would form a strong partnership with Harry Maguire at the heart of defence.

GIVEMESPORT’S Rob Hoskin says: Koubliably is one of the best central defenders in world football. In fact, he may be the second best behind Virgil van Dijk.

So, are Napoli really going to sell him for just ’70-75m euros’? It seems incredibly unlikely.

And would Koulibaly want to join United? If they qualify for the Champions League, they obviously have a much better chance of persuading the Senegalese to Old Trafford. But with Europa League football, they surely have absolutely no chance.

Maybe there’s an agreement if United finish in the top-four that Koulibaly will join them. But for that fee? Surely not.
