The printer is big but not huge as other Business printers. The size is perfect for a small home-office corner and easily fits on the KALLAX.
The printer makes a good impression in terms of the build quality. The plastic parts feel and look finely built.
The Printer can be installed Quickly using the Quick Start Guide. Once the Printer is turned ON, the onboarding screen is in English, but the language changes once you select your country. There are a few steps to setup, and the 8.8Cm screen guides you clearly and easily through it. The printer checks the print head and scanner through a 2-page print, but only a little ink is used. The printer is ready to use in less than 10 minutes.
The print quality makes a good impression. After installing the appropriate drivers, the ink consumption can be controlled on 4 levels. The lowest is the ECO Mode. The Print quality in ECO is good enough for text documents or for draft prints.
The print speeds are dependent on the Ink Consumption. Slowest being the “Best” and fastest being the “ECO”.
The printer has 2 Paper Trays with a capacity of upto 500pages (250pages each). The Tray 1 can as well accommodate other Paper types and sizes. There is also a Manual paper feed slot if needed.
The scanner and copier as well make a good impression. The scanner has the maximum quality of 1200dpi and the lowest of 200dpi. The 200dpi is suitable for Text documents, and the 1200dpi for Photos. The scanning/copying speed is directly linked to the scanning/copying dpi.
The highlight of this device is the Duplex Scanning/Copying in one pass through the ADF. The ADF can accommodate upto 50pages. The 2 sided scanning/copying is a great feature. You can select 1-sided, 2-sided, or 2 sides on 1 Page from the display itself.
The device can be connected via WLAN, LAN, or through USB. With the Internet connection, there are some extended features, such as Scan2Mail, Scan2FTP, Scan2Dropbox, etc. can be activated.
The device also has a FAX function for those who may need it.
I have been using Brother Printers for over 15 years, and they never fail to amaze me. The MFC-J5740DW was a much-needed upgrade for me, packed with Full Duplex capabilities and an advanced Piezoelectric printing head.

This is a good printer at a good price. However if you intend to use it regularly for A3 printing for which it is designed and advertised you need to know as I found out AFTER purchase that the A3 tray design has not been fully thought through. When there is A3 paper in Tray 2 it is only partially covered allowing dust to accumulate on the paper and be drawn into the printer. Brother's response was that the A3 paper needs to be taken out and the tray returned to the A4 configuration every time They said 'Unfortunately the design of the machine is such that the A3 tray is extended when in use and returned to A4 size when not in use.' The result for me I have to keep a piece of folded card over the exposed A3 tray section. Not what you want from your brand new A3 A4 printer.

Brother MFC-J5740DW purchased for mixed printing (documents and graphics). The print quality is good, with bold clear colours, even when printing double sided. The machine will handle paper up to A3 size for printing, but only has an A4 top scanner. Everything has worked perfectly so far. Print speeds are very good, even when high quality settings are used. Set-up was straightforward, and the ink cartridges used in the machine are individual colours, and of a decent size, which minimises downtime and ink wastage.

This machine is absolutely amazing- it is a printer, scanner, photocopier and fax if you require one. After unboxing, the set up was very straightforward and intuitive. The app is user friendly and makes using the printer easier for several people.
The printing speed is amazing too and quality OMG! I printed a photo and you wouldn't be able to tell it is not a professional copy once it's framed and displayed.
The printer looks very modern and smart with the touch screen. It is great for the office or for the household. You will easily print family photos, scan bills to keep a digital copy, print labels for your company mail, print professional looking leaflets to advertise your business etc etc etc- possibilities are just great.
There is an option to buy XL ink, which gives you about 3000 pages. What a time and money saver.
Overall- I would recommend this machine without hesitation. I am sooo happy own one now and am really looking forward to growing our family business with its support.
