May 18, 2024First things first, I’m admittedly an “Apple fanboy” but have never been one who fawns indiscriminately over everything they do. For example, I thought the iPhone was overblown junk until the 4S came out and, even then, I thought it had plenty of flaws. With that being said, I think this iPad is my third attempt at giving an iPad a try. Before this, I had one of the original minis and, more recently, I had a 7th gen regular iPad. I barely touched either of them, let alone used them for anything substantial. My phone was always a lot more convenient to use and so I invariably found myself wondering what the hype was about. Until I purchased this 13” iPad Air yesterday. Wow! This thing is impressive! And even though I’m sure I’ll never use it anywhere near as often as I do my phone, I foresee wasting significantly more time in it than any other iPad I’ve owned. First of all, somehow, I think it’s lighter than the 7th gen regular iPad! Or if it isn’t, it sure gives the impression that it is, despite being considerably larger. Second, TouchID is via the power button is as flawless as I was hoping it would be. Personally, I always found TouchID on the iPhone to be a heck of a lot more convenient than FaceID (I understand that I’m a minority in this respect) and its implementation here doesn’t disappoint. Third, although I never looked at the new iPad Pro with its OLED screen, the Air’s screen is no slouch and is plenty great to meet my needs. Lastly, build quality/design and processor speed are welcome upgrades over my old 7th gen iPad. Final impression? The 13” iPad Air is a delight to behold and use! In my mind, it often (usually?) takes Apple years to develop products that are truly worthy of its own hype but they finally succeeded with the new Apple Air. No buyer’s regret on this purchase.

December 4, 2024I placed an order for this 256g ipaid air for my daughter's holiday gift black friday. I want to save some money after checking the openbox excellent condition I decide to purchase one so I can save 50 bucks for getting her an ipad pencil pro from bestbuy as well. It turned out a worst experience I never imagined. The package arrived with a bear ipad air lonely laid in a box, no original box, no accessiories. they even didnot cover the ipad with anything. when my daughter opened the box, i can see her disappointment on her face immediately. It is over 800 dollars purchase but turned out it is like 80 dollars toy. i chated online with bestbuy agent immediately and they assured me to take it to store and the story will honor the cyber monday price if they cannot replace this with an excellent openbox one. I took it to store and they just deny request and told me i can simply return it and get a one at new price or call 1800 bestbuy number. So I came back frustrated and called 1800 bestbuy number. After half an hour waiting someone answered my call and after another 15 minutes waiting and talk back and forth for him to check with his supervisor and he promised that they will send a replecment excellent condition one and assure me everything will be settled. After several apology they finished the call. The next morning an email notified me that the replacement order was cancelled, very bad. So I come to online chat again, hours back and forther, agent and supervisor, no one can really help out with a solution. I decided to return all my purchase, the ipad air and ipad pencil pro back to bestbuy. I donot want to be kicked back and forth but without any real help. My requests are simple, replace this one with the product I paid for or issuing the refund for the price difference. If I can still get cyber monday price, I will not wait for any second to just purchase one from Apple store. It ruined my holiday shopping and felt very bad for my daughter.

December 15, 2024My (disabled) wife's iPad is 5 years old. She deserved a new, faster one. In the past, I have tended to favour elsewhere in Nottingham when I wanted to "talk Apple". Surely their staff would be more knowledgeable than a JL partner? My experience this year has proved this wrong. I called in to the Nottingham John Lewis store; I was warmly greeted and invited to browse. Then, as soon as my body language indicated I needed to talk, the salesman was there to offer advice. I told him I wanted an iPad, and I was taken through all my options - cellular or non-cellular, 128GB or more, etc. The salesperson was patient, and happily explained when I needed clarification, but stopped the explainer as soon as I confirmed I knew that bit. We spent about half an hour discussing my (well, my wife's) needs: the talk was never rushed, and it was always pitched at just the right level for me. He also made it clear which components were NOT sold with the iPad, such as the power supply; I especially appreciated that. By the end of our conversation, the partner had "made the sale" - but the purple-coloured model my wife had wanted was out of stock in the store! I thanked the salesperson most warmly, and went home to order the purple iPad from JL online. Maybe a few years ago, I felt JL partners were a little too casual in their selling: in 2024, I think they are trying much harder, and my in-recent store experience could not have been better.
The only negative I have about the entire purchase is that the "purple" colour of the iPad is very, very subdued. My wife's "signature colour" is purple, she has a deep purple wheelchair, and she would have liked the case to have been a more intense shade.

January 5, 2025I've been an android tablet and phone user for a decade. I bought the iPad Air because I needed access to some apps and pubs that were exclusive to Apple's walled garden. After a couple of months of experience I don't understand the Apple cult. I mean, it's good, but so are Samsung's. On certain functions, like handwriting-to-text (Apple's "Scribble" function), Samsung and Google GBoard are just much better. I was really surprised Apple's implementation of that was so weak. The app experience is o.k. I miss the absence of a "close all" function to shut down all my open apps. Battery performance is o.k., about 8 hours of use, comparable to other tablets. My major complaint with Apple generally--they make it hard for people who have to have a foot in both camps, like those who prefer Apple for a home device but have to use Windows at work (like about everyone who works for a large company or government). Apple Notes, for example, may be a great product on the iPad but it's not cross-platform so I can't really use it. Overall, I'm less than impressed. My professional artist daughter, however, loves hers for the art app she uses, so there's that. But I would not recommend this item for someone not already invested in Apple's ecosystem.
