Mystacidium capense - Iphamba
.
Common name: Iphamba
Family: Orchidaceae (Orchid)
Distribution: Eastern South Africa
Habitat: Montane and lowland forests
National red list: Least Concern
Life form: Epiphytic
Comments: This orchid grows in the warm, drier forests of southern Africa on the bark of trees. Its white, angraecoid flowers bloom in summer. Due to the colour and the sweet jasmine scent of the flowers in the evening, it is most likely pollinated by hawk moths. It also has been historically used in the traditional medicinal practices of the area as a love charm.
