The open-world anime MMO Tower of Fantasy is getting a crossover event with Neon Genesis Evangelion, the popular mecha anime franchise. It’s set to arrive in the upcoming Update 3.7, which is planned to be released on March 12, 2024, for PC, iOS, and Android.

You can check out the atmospheric trailer for the collaboration and the new version, set to the epic tunes of the most famous passage of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, below:

A crisis, all-out war, wormholes, giant mechas battling each other? It has to be said that the settings of Neon Genesis Evangelion and Tower of Fantasy do fit with each other nicely, as clearly showcased in the trailer.

Will we be able to get in the damn robot? Probably not. The trailer depicted mechas fighting in the background without input from the player, having them act as giant set pieces and create devastating chaos to up the stakes of the scene.

Fans of the game are incredibly happy with this crossover and even many former players, who haven’t been visiting Tower of Fantasy in a while, have expressed that this collaboration could well be what brings them back to the free-to-play MMO.

One can't say that the mechs don't fit the game's aesthetics.

Developed by Hotta Studios, Tower of Fantasy was released worldwide in 2022 to a lot of hype, since the gaming community viewed it as a serious challenger to HoYoverse’s Genshin Impact. However, the title did not fulfill those lofty expectations in the eyes of most gamers, being much too different from the game sitting on the anime throne after all.

According to SteamDB, the title hovers around a maximum of 1,400 concurrent users every day, which is not a massive player base for a MMO, even if its main business if focused on China. We’ll see if the irresistible draw of giant mechas can change this situation.
